Exterior Design Concept Selected

December 5, 2018

At its December 4th meeting, the AHS Building Committee further discussed three exterior design concepts as well as findings of the recent community-wide feedback form.

Through the feedback form, over 1,400 community members provided input on exterior design concepts, the site plan and potential re-use/re-creation options for historic elements.  Read the summary of the findings.

At the meeting, each committee member shared their opinions about the exterior design options, highlighting elements they liked and disliked about each concept. After considering their own opinions and those of the community, the committee directed HMFH to pursue Option A, with the caveat that more work needs to be done. While recognizing the community’s desire for a traditional/historic facade, the committee requested modifications of the entrance (potentially including the columns and arches) to make the entrance more welcoming to students.

The Option A design concept features an entrance with columns and arches as seen in the original Collomb House building. The auditorium wing (left) and the classroom wing (right) both represent a more traditional aesthetic. The glass wall and curved roofline seen beyond the forecourt and columns contain the Discourse Lab, and give balance to the two wings which are of different heights. The majority of the facade is brick, with different window styles on either side.

Also at the meeting, the Building Committee voted to further explore the ‘Construction Manager (CM) at Risk’ process by applying for consideration.  Learn more.
