Design Concept & Sustainability Update

November 7, 2018

As the Schematic Design phase continues to progress, the AHS Building Committee discussed the following topics at their Nov. 6th meeting.

  • Design Concept Update
    • HMFH presented historic element reuse possibilities as well as interior concepts focusing on the central spine and ‘hub’ of the school. View the presentation
  • Sustainability, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (SMEP)
    • The SMEP subcommittee presented proposed Accelerate Performance sustainability targets for the project.  View the presentation

The AHS Building Project has formally been accepted into Accelerate Performance program, a U.S. Department of Energy funded initiative that empowers building owners and developers to achieve desired energy performance goals. The AHS Building Project will receive free technical support from Eversource (our electric utility), National Grid (our natural gas utility) and their consultant, Seventhwave, to help incorporate sustainability goals and an energy use intensity target into the design of the new high school. This will help us work towards our goal of building a net-zero energy high school (or get as close as we can to net zero, given the need to balance other aspects of the project, and given other constraints of the high school site). Participation also means that we will measure energy performance to verify that the goals have been met.

These and other topics will be presented at the next public forum held on Nov. 27, 7pm at Town Hall.

Updated 11/26/18: Please note date change: Out of respect for Selectman Kevin Greeley’s family, and because of his wake, the November AHSBC Forum has been postponed to WEDNESDAY 11/28/18, 7pm at Town Hall.
