Highlights of Phase 4 Spaces

October 29, 2025

Arlington High School’s construction started in 2020 and involved a tremendous amount of planning and hard work by all the project partners. Phase 4 is the final phase of the construction project. This phase focused on exterior site work, including two additional multi-use turf athletic fields with lighting, a Minuteman Bikeway connector, staff parking, and a toilet facility adjacent to Peirce Field.

With the completion of Phase 4, the AHS Building Project building and site is now complete!

Phase 4 began with the demolition of remaining old buildings: the Red Gym and Downs House. The newly completed spaces are as follows:

Two additional full-size athletic fields

There are now full-size varsity softball and baseball fields on site. There is enough space on these fields to fit two large multi-use sports fields for use by the school and community for soccer and lacrosse among other sports. Both new fields have artificial turf and lighting for night use.

Minuteman Bikeway ramp access

The AHS site is now connected to the Minuteman Bikeway via a ramp. There are a total of 184 bike racks on campus to meet the demand of students who bike and walk to school.

Pick-up/drop-off and additional parking by Field Entrance

Car drop-off and pick-up is now available on the Field Entrance side of AHS. A new roadway enables cars to enter the site via Mill Brook Drive and exit via Schouler Court. Additional staff and visitor parking is also available. There are 218 parking spots on site. 10 additional EV charging stations have been added to the west parking lot as well as new solar PV canopy over that lot.

Restroom facility

The new toilet facility adjacent to Peirce Field includes a water refill station.

Sustainability Features

With the completion of the new Arlington High school, the town has an exceptional facility which minimizes operational and embodied carbon use and contributes to the town’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

Additional sustainability features in Phase 4  include:

  • 10 additional EV charging stations in the new west parking lot as well as a solar PV canopy over that parking lot.
  • Native pollinator gardens to collect rainwater from the building’s roof and provide a habitat for local pollinator species.
  • A stormwater retention system
  • Additional bicycle parking
