This message was sent to the Arlington High School community from Dr. Matthew Janger, AHS principal.

Dear Arlington Community,

I am writing to inform you that a new traffic light has been installed at the intersection of Mill St. and Millbrook Dr. This improvement is part of our efforts to enhance safety and manage traffic flow, particularly for our students attending Arlington High School.

The decision to install this traffic light was made after traffic studies conducted as part of the Arlington High School Building Project. The goal is to create a safer environment for students, pedestrians, and drivers alike. The Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) also reviewed the recommendation. Both school and town officials have worked together to ensure that this decision serves the best interests of our students and the community.

Operational Details:

  • For the next few weeks, the light will be in a test phase and will only be flashing.
  • After the test phase, the new traffic light will be operational at all times.
  • During peak school hours in the morning and afternoon, the light will prioritize traffic entering and exiting Millbrook Dr. At other times, it will operate on a standard timing sequence.
  • This adjustment aims to alleviate congestion on Mill St. and make the intersection safer and more efficient for everyone.

As always, your feedback is valuable to us. If you have any questions or concerns about the new traffic light, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Arlington High School Building Project .

Thank you for your continued support in making Arlington a safe and welcoming community.

9/16/24 Update: The original letter mistakenly communicated that the Transportation Advisory Committee recommended the installation of the new traffic light. Rather, the recommendation for the new light was the result of a detailed traffic study performed by the AHS Building Committee, which TAC subsequently reviewed and agreed with its installation. The letter also mistakenly called the committee the Traffic Advisory Committee. We regret the errors.
